In the next instalment of our Twenty for Twenty series, we ask Orthopaedic Surgeon at Milton Keynes University Hospital Dr Nikos Reissis to select an artwork.

Which work in The Collection have you chosen to talk about?

Boyd & Evans oil painting High Water (2009)

When and how did you first see it?

I had passed by this painting before with other people and not consciously noticed it, but then walking past again by myself it caught my eye and felt familiar like it had made an impression already.

What first interested or attracted you to this artwork?

I immediately felt as though I am looking at the view with the group, we are all together. It makes you feel as if you want to be part of it! The colours and textures on the jacket are natural and earthy. From behind you can imagine it is your friend there.

Do you remember how seeing this work made you feel?

Very relaxed, you think you are holidaying, enjoying beautiful scenery. It makes you feel part of something, the group - the weather doesn't matter.

In general, what kind of impact do you think seeing art at MKUH has on your experience of being on the hospital site?

Very nice, relaxed, you feel like you are not in hospital until you reach your destination, you are here as a group, as long as the memory keeps you in that present moment, and far away.
